Vacation Over

I am back at work. So I guess that means vacation is over.
I'll get back to my account of vacation.
On the Saturday we went up to Coloma, Ca to Sutter's Mill. That is where gold was found. It was very interesting to see everything. We did stop in Placerville on our way up. The rode along Hwy 49 to Clomoa.
Continued on Hwy 49 at the end of our day to Auburn. Then we got onto 80 to head home.
Sunday we just hung around Elk Grove. We did go to the movies. We saw John Tucker Must Die. It was ok. I think the kids enjoyed it. We were just glad for an air conditioned place to sit in for a while.
Monday we did nothing. Siobain went back to work and we just hung around. Got laundry done. Did some work in the front yard.
Tuesday we were up early to ride into Sonoma with Siobain. I think it has been over 2 years since we were in Sonoma.
Then we went into Santa Rosa. We stopped in at the Luther Burbank Gardens to take the kids picutes.
Then the ride home. Luckly all of our trips have been without incident. We do joke about the differnt things that can happen, but they don't.

Summer Vacation 2006 Part 2

Wednesday we went to Folsom.
It is a nice little town along the American River.
We did not get started until 4pm, which meant we arrived in old town Folsom after all the stores closed. I wanted to eat at the tea shop there. We will go back some other time. Hopefully when it is cooler.
We did have a lovely lunch at the Stage Grill. It is in the building where the Folsom Hotel use to be. The food was wonderful. While it was very hot even after 5pm we did walk around for a bit.
We stopped at the Folsom Outlet Mall on the way home. Can't pass up a chance to spend money. The only thing about the out let Mall is that some of the stores charge the same as they do in their regular stores. No fun there.
WE were able to see the lightrail station in Folsom. Now we know how to get there without a car.
Thursday we took my mother to get her hair done. It was the first day when the temps were under 100 degrees. She was very thank full to be able to get out and get her hair done. Brian also got his haircut.
The big event for today was the Strauss Festival in Elk Grove Regional Park. We brough our dinner with us. We even put wine into a water bottle. Then we also bought wine to get glasses that have the Strauss Festival 2006 etched on them. I gave my glass to my husband. It is a very nice little glass.
The weather was just beautiful. The music was lovely. The costumes on the dancers were unbelievable. To bad the pictures of the dancers didnt' come out.
There were fireworks afterwards.

Friday: We went to the Crocker Museum in Sacramento to see the MC Escher exhibit.
The museum is in the Crocker Mansion. The building is absoutley beautiful. The other exhibits in the museum are wonderful. We had a great time looking at everything.

Vacation 2006

Glad to be home and see the fog.
We arrived last Sunday it was 109. I don't remember the last time I felt such opressive heat. It was my siter's birthday, so we stopped off to get her gifts and dinner.
We had a nice quiet celebration. I worked Saturday night. I woke up at 5:30pm on Saturday and went to bed at 12:30am on Monday morning. I was not happy over the lack of sleep.
I did sleep for 12 hours.

Monday was 108. We had plans to go to the River Cats Game. It took us all day to get ready to go. I cannot belive how hot it was.
The game was fun, but we were miserable because of the heat. We talked about how even in the middle of summer when you are going to the Giant's game you need to think if you are going to need a blanket or not.
Here we were looking for ice, ice cream, cold drinks. My little fan got a workout.

Tuesday was 103. We went to IKEA in West Sacramento. We spent about 4 hours there. I cannot belive we spent that much time there. We all had fun dreaming about everything we would buy if we could.

Amazing Lace #2 Extreme Knitting

I was reading the rule of the Second Challenge and I couldn't figure out how I could ever come up with anything that was extreme.
I thought I go to the fire station and see if they will let me knit on the engine.
I'll have the kids take a picture of me knitting on a a packed MUNI streetcar.
Then last night while I work, I engaged in EXTREME KNITTING!!!!!!!!!
I had my pattern, my yarn, my circular needles, but not my dpn's.
I wanted to start my Pi Shawl now. Not wait until I got home.
I went and got 4 packs of cotton tipped applicators. I've made them into dpn's before. I usually just cut of the cotton tip and then file down the ends.
This time i did not have an emery board to do the filing with. I only had a pencil sharpner.
Let us just say it is not easy to make stitchs using cotton tip applicators that have been sharpned with a pencil sharpner.
Pictures to follow.

I have my pattern. It was right where I thought it was. My yarn. My needles, my stitch markers. I ready to go. I will start tonight on my way to work.
I'll knit on the Pi Shawl this weekend and then go back and finish a few things that are hanging around here.

I bought yarn

Yesterday I went out to buy my daughter's birthday gift. While I was out I went and visited a yarn store that I haven't been to yet.
It was very nice, clean and new. I bought the book One Skein and I bought one skein. LOL
The yarn I bought Manous del Uruguay. I've never bought it before. It was the only wool yarn in the whole store that even looked purple. It is a very rich deep color at home. I want to make the felted bag I just finished with this yarn.
The birthday girl asked for a felted bag. Of course I cannnot find the pattern.
I am ashamed to admit that I went over to my bed and without moving anything I picked up 12 knitting books.
I don't think I need anymore knitting books. LOL
So guess which book I can't find?
EZ's Knitter's Almanac. I'll find it later when I move things.
I also have some patterns to fill in the center of my pie shawl. I just need to decide which ones I want to use and where I want to put them.

I have my yarn.
Knit Picks Shadow the color is Lost Lake. I have 3 skeins. I hope that is enough. I am making the Pi Shawl from Elizabeth Zimmerman.
Right now I cannot find the pattern. I do think I copied it a few years ago when I made a pi shawl so if I can't find the book it is in maybe I can find the copy.
So that is my update for now.

Eight Day since I"ve bought yarn

I finished my bag. It is felted and drying as we speak. I love it. I have enough yarn to make 3 more. I plan to make them sometime this summer and then I can give them as gifts this Christmas.
I need to start swatching for my Pi Shawl. I also need to wind up my yarn and take a picture of everything.
Then I want to make somethings from the Mason-Dixon book.
I have so many ideas. I hope I can finish them. Considering I have 2 pairs of socks on the needles that I need to finish also.

Monday, May 29, 2006

My bag is about 50% finished. Hope to finish it tomorrow and then I will felt it. We'll see how things go.

I went out and bought yarn. I bought Cascade 220. I am going to make a bag and try to felt it. I've felted two heart bowls using Lamb's Pride and it has been fun. So we'll see how the bag knits up and felts.

It's a good thing no one reads my blog. LOL
My mother is doing better. Not 100% but at least she is still eating and up and about. Not like she usually does when she gets sick.
Tomorrow is the last dose of her antibiotic and I'll be up on Monday, so we'll see how she is doing.
Tomorrow is Mother's Day. Hope all the Mother's out there have a wonderful day. I just want to sleep. I'm so lazy.
Off to work tonight, hope Day Shift shows up so I don't have to stay over.

Don't start thining life is easy.

I was starting to think that maybe things would be good this summer with my parents. I have no idea why I start thinking that way. Maybe because I would like a little vacation with more then one or two nights away. Oh, well. It will happen one of these days and maybe it will be this summer.
My mother fell today. She probably has a UTI, but I was not there, my sister was not there. My brother would have taken her to the Dr, but it is usually a two man job when she is not feeling well.
The Dr did consent to starting her on antibiotics without a urine culture. Hopefully things will improve and we can get on with our lives.
I will be up there tomorrow and will see what is going on. Hopefully I have nothing to worry about.

LOST

Only 3 more episodes of LOST left.
We were all blown away by Wednesday's episode.
We tuned in knowing someone was going to die, but we never thought Michael was going to be the one to kill Ana Lucia and maybe Libby.
Can't wait for Wednesday's show. Good thing they are all being TIVO'd we can watch then all summer long and look for things we missed.

Spring is in the air.

I can't breath. Very important to breath.
I hate Spring just because of my allergies.
Hopefully things will get better soon.
I've got to stop doing Sudoku. I hardly ever knit now.
I have so much knitting to do. Must put the puzzles away.
The weather has been nice most of the week. Foggy on Fri and Sat but that is ok because today was beautiful.
Only problem is it is so hot in Elk Grove that I'm not sure if I can survive. Oh, well, things can be worse.
Maybe I can knit some while I'm in Elk Grove or my trip up. I do have pictures to post I just haven't moved them to a photoalbum so I can post them here. Maybe during the week.

100 Years later

Today is the 100th Anniversary of the Great Earthquake and Fire of San Francisco.
Parade, Ceremonies and lots of Fire Fighters, Police out this weekend.
We had a great time today for the Ceremony at 4:30 this morning. Earthquake hit at 5:13 am. So it was up at the crack of dawn to mark the Anniversary.
The day was beautiful.
After so much rain it was great to see the sun. We of course are sunburned. Never thought that would happen.
Hopefully I'll have pictures later.

New Yarn

I bought yarn from Knit Picks.
My kids made me do it. LOL
They each got some yarn.
We bought Jig, Gumballs and Vineyard.
I also bought the Northern Lights Mittens pattern and the yarn to make the mittens I'm knitting them now.
Colors are great.
Wonder how long it will take me to finish them.
I also bought new dpns to make the mittens. How was I to know I needed them. LOL
Took picutes of my finished items. I need to take the film to be develped, will also get them on a disk so I can post pictures. I need to find my digital camera and my cards so I can post pictures from last year. I am so far behind on posting pictures. I could probably spend a whole day here and not get them all posted.

Another weekend.

Friday, another week has gone by. Did I accomplish anything? I went to work. I saw my parents. I slept. That about sums it up.
I did do a few Sudoku puzzles. Knit a little. Other then that I'm not sure about my accomplishments.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

On Sunday we went to the St. Patrick's Day Parade. We had a great time. We were cold, wet and cranky. I felt so sorry for the poor little kids who were in the parade. Skimpy little costumes and soaking wet.
We had fun after the parade. Went to dinner, shopping and then came home. While it was a wet miserable day I'm glad we went.

I live in a Winter Wonderland.

I did not have my camera, but I'm sure if you go to NBC11.com you will see pictures of San Francisco with hail, not snow, but hail. I think it was at least 1/2 inch thick.
Before the hail fell we had thunder and lightening, then the skies opened with this white hard icy substance.
We were in Albertsons when it happened. No one wanted to leave the store. We were going to call a cab but since it was only raining after that we figured we could walk home. It was fun in a I'm glad it doesn't happen all the time, type of way.
We were very cold. Shoes and pants got wet, but that is ok.
We are home now, trying to get warm.
Have lots of movies and candy to watch tonight.
So the weather can do whatever it wants.

Do you know the old saying?

Till Hell freezes over?
I think that is what is happeing over here.
We are to have snow at 500 feet.
We do not get snow at 500 feet.
They keep breaking into the soaps to show the snow and the traffic not moving.
I am so cold. It is not fair. LOL

Knitting

I did not finsh my sweater for the Knitting Olympics.
I am listed as DNF. It is ok. I will eventually finish the sweater.
I think I just need to take it slow if I want to knit Intarsia. Can't force myself to do it.
It took me over 6 months to finish the Flame Sweater for my son and that was only on the sleeves. So how did I expect to finsh a whole sweater in 16 days?
Truth is I never expected to finish the sweater. I just thought I would finish more of it.
Ah well.
It will get done one way or the other.
We had a terrible storm blow thru here Sun and Monday. Luckly I didn't get to wet. My son was soaked coming home from school Monday, better then on the way to school.
We are suppose to get more rain this week. Hope no one else gets soaked this week.

Knitting Olympics

I thought I had written a post about my hands falling apart and how hard it was to knit and type. I haven't seen it post yet. Sometimes they take days to show up. Very strange indeed.
I spent all of yesterday home and kept my hands covered in vaseline and while I still have some cracked knuckles they do look better.
I will continue to knit.
I decide that in order to finish the sweater I can't stress myself. So one day a week I will knit while watching TV and I will knit on my Pumpkin sweater then.
That way I should be able to wear it for Halloween.

Knitting Olympics Progress cont....

I've been sidlined with an injury.
My hands are falling apart. It is winter. My hands always fall apart in the winter. When I signed up for the Olympic Knitting started the weather was nice and sunny. My hands were in good shape.
I guess you could call me the Tonya Harding of Knitting Olympics.
I've finished one sleeve, started the other sleeve, I think I've finished 5 rows on the ribbing. I think I've knitted 2 more rows on the back of the sweater. I think I'm doing well and then I realize I picked up the light orange instead of the bright orange. So that means I have to rip back and start again. I'll do my best to knit this week. I do have Fri/Sat night off so I'm good for a few hours of knitting then.
Hope everyone else is doing great with their knitting.

Knitting Olympic progress

Day One: Finished the 5 hour baby sweater. Slept while I watched the Opening Ceremonies. Kids would wake me up to look at the TV.

Day Two: Knit 1 inch band on the back of the sweater. Found out I had already knit on sleeve. Yea, I'm ahead. Looked at graph and all my little balls of yarn. Knit 5 rows on sleeve band of second sleeve.

Day Three: Knit 2 rows of sweater back. Yarn is all tangeled. Must untangle it before I continue.

So now I know what degree to get.

You Should Get a MFA (Masters of Fine Arts)

You're a blooming artistic talent, even if you aren't quite convinced.
You'd make an incredible artist, photographer, or film maker.

Christmas Knitting

I said I wasn't going to knit for Christmas. I'm knitting for Christmas.
I'm making a pair of Irish Hiking Mitts. I knit one last night and I'll knit the other one tonight.
Then I'll just go back and see what I can finish from my unfinished pile.

RENT

We went and saw the movie RENT last night. We all enjoyed it. I prefered the play, the movie did add on things that weren't in the play.
I think I want to go see the play again.
Finished my Norweigen mittens. They look great. I will wash them today and take a picture.
Now to decide what to knit next. I'll pull out some of my half finished projects and see what strikes my fancy.
It has been over 2 monthes since I bought yarn. Unbelievable.

Mittens

I'm making the Norwegian Mittens from Elizabeth Zimmerman.
I am using Knitpicks Elegance. They are very soft. I've ripped them out twice already. The second time I was up to row 31. The thumb part just didn't look right. I keep thinking I was suppose to be doing something else. Like put the thumb in a different spot. So I've ripped them out and I will start all over again. If I ever get them finished, they will be beautiful.

Comments are now moderated

I hated to do this, but I must.
I don't get many comments as it is, but it was anoying to have comments that were spam.
Sorry if this stops people from commenting. Most of you know how to get ahold of me, so you can leave comments else where.

Knitting

I think I finally figured out 2 socks on 2 circs. Boy was it rough going for awhile. I actually thought I found a knitting technique I couldn't do. It had me so frustrated. It isn't second nature that is for sure, but at least I am doing it.
I won some Opal yarn. I can't wait for it to arrive. LOL

Average American

According to the description on npr's website, writer Kevin O'Keefe set out to find the "most-average" American two or three years ago. He talked to magicians in Maryland and cattle farmers in Kansas, among others, then ended up in his hometown in Connecticut. The result, The Average American: The Extraordinary Search for the Nation's Most Ordinary Citizen, concludes that the following are true for a majority of Americans. Like other bloggers who have included this list on their sites (dustbury and absinthe & cookies among others),

- Eats peanut butter at least once a week (I only eat peanut butter ocasionaly).
- Prefers smooth peanut butter over chunky (I like both equaly)
- Can name all Three Stooges (Larry, Curley and Moe
- Lives within a 20-minute drive of a Wal-Mart (Thankfully I don't, I've also never been inside of one).
- Eats at McDonald's at least once a year.(I gave up fast food years ago)
- Takes a shower for approximately 10.4 minutes a day (I've never times myself).
- Never sings in the shower (Never)
- Lives in a house, not an apartment or condominium (and I really love mine)
- Has a home valued between $100,000 and $300,000 (The dumps around here are going for over $700,000. Sadly I don't own one of those dumps).
- Has fired a gun (Sadly yes).
- Is between 5 feet and 6 feet tall (True).
- Weighs 135 to 205 pounds (True).
- Is between the ages of 18 and 53 (True).
- Believes gambling is an acceptable entertainment option (nope)
- Grew up within 50 miles of current home (5 miles).
Now it's your turn.

Is this true?

Your Hair Should Be Orange

Expressive, deep, and one of a kind.
You pull off "weird" well - hardly anyone notices.

Interesting Thoughts

One comment about my last post was that I have interesting thoughts. I've never been told that. I'm usually told I ramble.
I just noticed that I seem to be posting on Saturday's.
At least I'm doing something.
I will not have a comment about what is going on in DC.
I don't want to start WWIII. Oh, wait. Somebody already did that.
I have gone 1 month 1 week and 2 days without buying yarn. Not having time to go shopping really helps.
Since I didn't finish my knit 10 items before you buy more yarn challenge, I think I'll start a list of items I want to start and finish in the new year.
Next week I am going to attempt to learn to knit 2 socks on 2 circular needles. Everyone says it will cure the Second Sock Syndrome. So how am I going to do this project? I'm going to knit two socks out of two differnt balls of yarn. That means I will end up with 2 single sock. I can never make things simple, can I? LOL

"Dympna needs"

You know how they say to do go to Google and put in "your name needs". I did. I got no hits.
When I didn't use the quotation marks the first hit was for a BBC show.
Then people who are very successful.
I guess I am not sucessful. LOL

Another weekend.

I made it home without problem last weekend. Mainly because the rain stopped before 7am and I stayed at work until 3;30pm. I am tired of being understaffed and calling people at 5am. I see no let down in the future. So I guess I will just have to get use to it.
I do not work this weekend. That is a nice feeling. Got my hair done today. I need to fall asleep. Wonder when that will happen.
Have no plans for the weekend yet.

Weekend

The rain has started. Way to early for me. I am at work without a jacket or umbrella. I need to walk a mile to the train. I guess I'll have to ask for a ride to the train.
Finished an Irish Hiking Scarf. It looks wonderful a lovely tourquoise color and as long as I could make it without getting sick of it.
I'm still working on Brian's Sweater. I have got to sit down and finish it.
Making myself a nice shawl. I will take my time with it. I don't want to get sick of it before I finish.
Should probably think about Christmas gifts.
